In San Francisco, family-run Italian places are busiest on weekend evenings and around holidays, when reservations or call-ahead seating are worth it. BYOB is common at smaller restaurants in some states, with a modest corkage fee or none at all; the listing or a quick call will tell you. Wing-and-pizza shops across California do most of their business by delivery and price wings by the piece or in fixed counts, with sauce heat adjustable on request. Catering trays, party pizzas and sheet pies need a day's notice at most places, and more around big game days.
The business lists hours on 5 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 12β5 pm. Note that it does not open on Monday, Tuesday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. You can reach Giovanni Italian Specialties at (415) 576-8806; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is giovannispecialty.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
Customers rate it 4.8 out of 5 on Google across 50 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded italian delis & bakeries in San Francisco.
San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around San Francisco is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Loooooove this store - small but mighty! There is so much to see & buy - from sauce to fresh pasta to a copy of The Pizza Bible (my husband has a signed copy!) The whole ambiance of the store is such a vibe - my husband and I love it. Even down to the music being played. It passes the vibe-check as the kids say. lol. I've been in for their soft serve & cannolis - both so yums! You can never go wrong with soft serve! You can choose from either a cone or cup & they have a bunch of toppings - even the olive oil & sea salt which I have heard AMAZING things about but I am a plain-girly so I opted for a plain soft serve on a cone. If you go here & don't get a cannoli, did you actually go here? Just asking. Cannoli choices: Plain, Pistachio, Chocolate Chips & Rainbow Sprinkles. My go-to is Chocolate Chips, it never fails! A great thing about their cannolis is that they make 'em after you order! Fresh & hot off the presses! They also have coffee but I have never tried it BUT it gives me a reason to come back!

This place is sooo interesting and homey! Love the vibe here< Check out the placement of items and all the old stuff from last century - such as sewing machine, noodle press, and other things. Their espresso is very authentic and Cannoli is very addictive. Plus, you can sit there and watch the park and church from not far. Such an enjoyment!

A Taste of Tradition If you are visiting North Beach, San Francisco, you should make a quick stop at Giovanni Italian Specialties and try one of their cannolis with a cup of coffee. Their cannolis are made with a crispy shell, creamy ricotta filling, and chocolate chips or pistachio toppings. They are a popular choice among customers and often sell out quickly. By the way, they may have more than chocolate or pistachio topping choices, but I get the pistachio every time! It is delicious. While you are waiting for the cannoli and the coffee, walk around the little store and check out the goods. You might even find a few things you want to add to your shopping list! Giovanni Italian Specialties is in the heart of North Beach, San Francisco. If I remember correctly, they opened their doors in late 2017. It is one of our favorite stops during our weekend walks around the neighborhood. The store is named after the owner's son, Giovanni, and reminds visitors of a 1950's general store. The owner, Tony Gemignani, is famous for his pizza and wanted to bring his love for pasta to the neighborhood where his restaurant business began. The store has a rich history connected to the owner's f

We saw the soft serve billboard from across the park and it drew us in! The icecream was delicious and hit the spot on a warm day! While we were in line, the slices of pizza that were being served looked delicious as well. There were many Italian market items like olive oil, tomato sauces, fresh pastas, and liquors. We will be back!
